Yamaha India launched the new MT-15 at price starting from INR 1.36 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Yamaha MT-15 is essentially the YZF R15 v3.0 with some changes to lean it more towards commuter motorcycle. MT15 uses handlebar setup in contrast to the clip-on setup of R-15 v3.0 making it a naked street-fighter.
What powers the new Yamaha MT-15 is the same 155cc SOHC liquid cooled engine derived from the R-15 v3. This motor churns healthy 19.57 PS of power and 14.7 Nm of torque. The same 6-speed transmission does its duty on the new MT-15. Moreover, the slipper clutch assistance is a boon to have. It also gets the VVA technology to balance both performance and mileage.
New MT-15 from Yamaha will feature only single-channel ABS as standard. However, the Yamaha R15 v3 comes with dual-channel ABS and it comes with the price of INR 1.39 lakh. Exciting features are the all-LED headlights and digital instrument cluster. However, if we talk about the unexciting elements, MT-15 uses the conventional telescopic front forks in contrast to USD forks. Also, simpler tube type swing arm screw adjustment as against the sturdy aluminium swing arm available in global-spec version. However, the combination of perimeter frame and linked type mono shock makes the MT15 a great handler just like the Yamaha R15 v3.
Gross weight of the new Yamaha MT-15 is 288kgs while the fuel efficiency is expected to be around 45kmpl. New Yamaha MT15 will be available with four colour options – Black, Blue Black, Grey Black and Blue. Also, the alloys feature contrast paint scheme for a more attractive appearance.
